Sexism: Why Bachmann Will Lose

| Tuesday, August 30, 2011

For a few months, Michele Bachmann has created quite a buzz in the media. She grabbed the limelight when she joined the GOP debate in New Hampshire more than two months ago. A darling of the Tea Party, Bachmann touted her staunch conservatism and blasted Obama on the campaign trail. For that period, she was the leading GOP Romney-alternative candidate and people started talking about “the rise of Michele Bachmann”.

But now, it seems the Minnesota Congresswoman seems to be pushed out of the limelight since Rick Perry entered the race.

Despite having an ideological connection with many Republicans, Michele Bachmann will not be the GOP nominee simply because she is a woman. Republicans are not yet ready to pick a woman to lead their party in the general election, much less an outspoken woman like Michele Bachmann who can turn off independents.

But if you think that Bachmann’s star is falling, I don’t think it’s not. I believe she knows already that she’s not going to be the GOP nominee in 2012 and she’s just using her current presidential run to expand her influence in the GOP (like becoming a heavyweight political endorser) and to increase her brand for another run for higher office in the future. That’s why she’s still not exiting the race until now.
